PhoneME iPod and other MP3 players port

Hello.
Is anyone interested in porting phone ME to Rockbox, an "open source jukebox firmware", as stated on http://www.rockbox.org/ ?
Rockbox is an OS that works on several popular MP3 Players, including the iPod, so a phoneME port would be quite interesting.
Since i'm not an experienced programmer, i would need a lot of help. :-)
Thanks,
Stefan

changed to rockbox.org :-)

Well that might be a sizable undertaking as the RockBox os is a very light weight platform.
However looking at their plugins there is the concept of graphics and games, so I'm not saying impossible.

Also the website is http://www.rockbox.org not .com

It's been too long since I did 'C' development to be of any use here. I'm having troubles trying to get the PhoneME Feature to compile on the Nokia 770 scratchbox environment. :(

Good luck, and best wishes.

Stefan,

As we already discussed offline I think this is a great idea - and cool as well. phoneME Feature actually requires very little hardware and OS support: 20 Mhz CPU, 1 MB of heap, a single thread of execution, and some basic way of getting a chunk of memory from the OS. Without knowing much about rockbox and the iPod I think the basic requirements are met.

Well, i think rockbox os has anything you need (graphics) and a dynamic memory allocation function has been written for the jpeg viewer, so i see no difficulty in porting phone me (i am far from an expert though). The plugin structure makes everything platform-independet, which is very helpful in my opinion.

Hello, I would be interested in this project.

I've been taking a look at the porting guides and, looking at the general bits, think it should be feaseable the porting, at least for the platforms already supported by phoneME, in my case (I own an iRiver H120, which is m68k based) I'm out of luck.

I've already do some coding for rockbox (porting GNU Chess and a graphical frontend) and would be glad to do work, but when I entered in the details to start the port it seems to be too much job for one person.

More volunteers ?

After reading the porting guide, i think i can port a part of the java call api, but anyone is welcomed to help, since this can't be done easily by one or two people.

This sounds interesting, it's been some time since i did any C code but i'd be glad to help.
I looked a bit at rockbox and some of its code and i'll have a closer look at phoneME.

If there's any general programming tasks that I could help out with I'd be happy to do my bit, to help this project become a reality.

I love my rockbox, and to have access to all of the applications, games, and tools that the j2me can offer would be simply sweet for myself and the rockbox community.
