Updating JAXB on Glassfish

Hello,

Looking at https://jaxb.dev.java.net/ I came accross a new JAXB version
(2.1.1.0). Is it possible to update my glassfish (2.1) installation with
this new version? I couldn't find this information anywhere... Is this
version faster than my current version?

Thanks!

Sorry for the extra '.' .

I couldn't find any jaxb*.jar inside glassfish folder. Aparently the glassfish jaxb implementation lives inside glassfish\lib\webservices-rt.jar which would create some painful update steps ...

Is this correct?

You might want to check out this report of JAXB fixes from 2.1 to 2.1.10 :

http://tinyurl.com/jaxb-fixes-from-2-1-to-2-1-10

There are a few performance-related fixes in there, but you'll have to look at them to see if they are relevant to you!

Personally, I've very pleased with JAXB 2.1.10 because it contains several fixes that I contributed relating to usability/more helpful error mesages/conformance to the spec - it's a relief to know I won't have to worry about them anymore!

Sounds good. But do you have any advice on how to upgrade Glassfish V2.1 to JAXB 2.1.10?

Sorry, not really! What I'm trying to say is 'do you actually want to?' What's in it for you? You'll have to play about with your GlassFish install - you must have something in mind you're aiming to achieve with the upgrade?

After having a couple of attempts at building GlassFish V2 from source, and then reading this:

http://blogs.sun.com/alexismp/entry/building_glassfish_v2_from_source

- I decided that building GlassFish V3 from source would probably be a lot more fun - maybe you should start evaluating the early milestone builds of GlassFish V3 ?!

good luck,

Roberto

This is wierd... If there were bugs fixed, why should we wonder whether there are good reasons for updating this library?

Because maybe the fixed bugs are not things you are having an issue with. In
that case once might ask is it worth my time and effort to do the upgrade
when I will get no benefit from it.
Think of it like this, Sun releases a snow blower patch in case you are
caught in a blizzard. Should you rent a truck to pick up the snowblower from
Sun if you live in Miami? :)

Drop jaxb-impl-2.1.10.jar and jaxb-api-2.1.jar into GLASSFISH_HOME/lib/endorsed and bounce the app server.
