The IGSA, the Asian Diversity Network @Sun, and Sun Microsystems invite you (and your development staff) to learn more about open source technologies that you can leverage for the development of online games, virtual worlds, and social networking applications.

—And not just any open source technologies, but technologies invented by Sun—and that bear the hallmark's of Sun's innovation and commitment to quality; technologies that are today advanced in open source communities in which you can play an active part; technologies that provide value measured not by a price tag, but by their quality and effectiveness.

Please join Mr. Michael Gialis as he presents Open Source Technologies for Building Interactive Solutions.

This FREE two hour presentation will cover Sun’s platforms that enable the development of:

· Online games

· Virtual worlds

· Simulations

· Social networking applications

· Training and learning applications

In today's very uncertain economy, the value of open source technologies simply cannot be overstated. Bottom line: if you now (or intend to) develop online games, virtual worlds, and/or social networking applications, you need to understand these readily available open source technologies.

Project Darkstar: Open source platform designed for the online game universe. It helps developers and operators avoid a range of serious, yet typical, problems associated with massive scale online games, virtual worlds, and social networking applications including zone overloading, data corruption, and server underutilization. In addition, Project Darkstar enables developers to support new dimensions of play such as evolving virtual worlds and very large scale battlefields.

Project Wonderland: 3D toolkit for creating collaborative virtual worlds. Within those worlds, users can communicate with high-fidelity, immersive audio and can share live applications such as web browsers, OpenOffice documents, and games.

Project SunSPOT: Open source development platform designed to inspire the next generation of gadgets. Sun SPOT devices are Java-based, small, wireless, mesh networked, secure, sensors and effectors that can be used in everything from sensing the environment to controlling robots.

Zembly: Allows you to collaborate with others to easily create and host social applications of all shapes and sizes that interface with the most popular social platforms on the web. Requiring only a browser and your creativity, you can create and publish Facebook apps, Meebo apps, OpenSocial apps, iPhone apps, Google Gadgets, embeddable widgets, and other social applications.

Ryan Lucas
