Hey guys, I was wondering if there is any kind of IRC channel devoted to phoneME development.
I found one for Open JDK ( http://openjdk.java.net/irc/ ) and thought it might be good to have something for phoneME as well.
Anyone??
Eric

Eric,
Yeah, we've tossed around the idea. Do you envision a chat channel being used on a continuous bases for regular discussions or for specific events such as Q&A sessions, etc?

IRC can be a useful real time communication channel and take the waiting on email responses out of the question. You could consider it an alternative form of peer programming.
You could plan for special events and discussions if needed. You could announce them on the forums indicating upcoming events.
An IRC channel "bot" could be setup to keep the channel alive and potentially log communications if needed. The bot could be setup to response to questions and point folks to other URLs if needed.
Keeping the signal to noise ration is always a issue but the same can be said about emails and forum.
You can always look up for more details at Wikipedia (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat ) Eric

Eric,
We discussed it a bit. The feeling was that and IRC channel for regular communication is not ideal because a) it requires someone to monitor it all the time which distracts from other things and b) it fragments the communication channels (right now the forums/email aliases is where it all happens).
So I think we should stick with the forums/email aliases for now. But we should keep IRC in mind for specific real-time events like Q&A sessions.

Have you asked the openjdk folks if it's proven to be useful?
