New online forum specifically for BD-J

Hello All,
There is a new, BD-J oriented forum online at: http://www.bdjforum.com
Being a SD Author and Java programmer, soon to move into Blu-ray authoring myself, I have been researching first steps into the BD-J API.
It seems we're all facing the same issues; having to piece together the API from its known components, HAVI, MHP etc. basically - we've having to help ourselves and each other due to the reticence of Sony/Sun/BD Association to release much info...
So, towards this end, I have started a purpose made forum online. I will be researching all I can and consolidating a single home made API reference over the coming weeks; so be sure to join up and check back!
Hope to see you there - happy authoring!
Chris Hatton

While I applaud the participation I'm curious is there a reason why the Blu-ray Disc Java forum at http://forums.java.net/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=117 doesn't do what you need? I would rather see the Blu-ray community focus on existing forums rather than split the attention across multiple forums and mailing lists. Also that forum is cross posted to this mailing list.

Apologies if I am diluting the focus of developers; that was never my intention. I had spent quite a while looking through BD-J information available in recent months, and at no time come across this forum. Mistakenly thinking there wasn't yet one in existence, I decided to create my own.
While I wouldn't attempt to 'replace' java.net as an official collaboration point; bdjforum.com can contribute a little extra to the community by way of different areas to discuss general HD authoring and use of BD-Java through these.
Hopefully there is room on the net for two BD-J forums to comfortably coexist... I certainly can't find any others.

As regards cross-posting, I am not sure what you mean. I only posted my first message once.

Messages on forum are posted to this mailing list and vice versa.

My intent here to try to keep the information in as a few a places as possible. If there is a need for an authoring and BD-J usage forum then by all means I'll create one on java.net. My first priority would be to use the existing forum but I understand that their might be other needs.
Additionally, the M&E Community has the resources to sponsor an additional forum(s) as needed so that developers, such as yourself, don't need to use their resources for that purpose. Additionally, the funding and support for the M&E is ongoing so there is very little risk of the forum disappearing in the future. I'm certain your intentions in creating the forum are long term I but I'd like to reduce the risk by either creating a new j.n forum for BD-J authoring and usage or use the existing BD-J forum.

I like the idea of the new forum, and the forum software is certainly way better than the java.net stuff.
However, I think that there could be room for a Wiki on this new site too: Several of the already sticky threads seems to collect such "permanent" information which might better be collected and "annotated" in a wiki.
Pity that the BD-J scene obviously isn't very big yet. I think Sun and the other players should try to get more information out about this exciting java-based "application platform", which hopefully will be available in "the thousand homes" in a few years time. It feels a bit like this is a rather closed community at the time being - much of the tools being proprietary and commercial and so on.
For example: Where's the "Hello world" (and the Kitchen Sink-style "hello world mk 2") application, starting from step 0) You get hold of a BlueRay burner, possibly this, that or this. 1) You buy yourself a burnable BlueRay disc, possibly this, this or this type. 2) You download Eclipse and this, that and this software .. and so on, untill step 14) Download the free, open source burner software XYZ, 15) You lay out the disc as such, and click the "bootable" whatever, 16) You burn the above laid out disc 17) You insert the disc into your BlueRay player, and watch your fantastic "Hello World" text string appear, whose position you may change using the remote control's arrow keys.. (And a similar tutorial, using some emulator that would speedily bypass the physical "burn the disc" stages)

Tell me what you don't like about j.n forums?
